Survival Log Known Issues and Fixes
Quick answer
Survival Log launched without an Early Access period, so its first weeks have been about bug fixes. The most-reported problems are a stalled warehouse clerk unlock chain, a main-quest blueprint vanishing from inventory, and a frame-rate drop confined to the ability-learning screen. None of them are hardware faults, and several already have patches.
Everything below is community-reported from the Steam discussion forum unless marked otherwise. Bugs get patched quickly in a game's first month, so check the date at the top of this page and the official patch notes in the Official Links footer group before assuming an issue is still live.
Every tracked Survival Log bug so far
Each Survival Log bug below was raised by players on the official Steam forum during launch week. The table gives the symptom and the current status; the sections underneath cover the three that actually change how you play.
| Issue | What you see | Status / workaround |
|---|---|---|
| Warehouse clerk unlock stalls | Solar panels, medium power storage and lead-acid batteries stay locked | Reported; check for a patch before restarting a loop |
| Missing rescue blueprint | Main quest active, blueprint absent from inventory and workbench drawer | Reported; verify game files, then check the workbench drawer tab specifically |
| Ability screen frame drop | FPS falls sharply on the skill-learning screen only | UI issue, not hardware; update GPU drivers and report your build |
| Power-storage skill not applying | A storage-related perk appears not to take effect | Reported; behaviour may be a display bug rather than a real loss |
| Untranslated string keys | Raw placeholders such as a smart-recommend label appear in the English build | Cosmetic localisation gap |
| Challenge achievement tracking | Indoor-style challenges failed due to earlier loops | Patched - now tracked within a single loop |
The warehouse clerk unlock bug
This is the most disruptive Survival Log bug reported so far, because it blocks a whole progression chain rather than a cosmetic detail. Players following the warehouse clerk path found that the unlock did not register, and that downstream items gated behind it - solar panels, medium-capacity power storage and lead-acid batteries - remained unavailable.
The reason it hurts is structural: solar and storage are exactly what a long Survival Log run needs to survive extended rain and blackout stretches. Losing that branch does not just remove options, it changes which power strategy is viable, pushing you back onto diesel and the fuel budget that implies. Our power guide covers the diesel-only fallback.
If you are affected, do not assume you missed a requirement. Check the intended unlock path first, then check the patch notes - this is a known defect, not a hidden condition.
Missing main-quest blueprint
Several Survival Log players reported the rescue-marker blueprint tied to the main quest disappearing from their inventory. Before treating it as a bug, check two places people commonly miss: the Workbench Drawer tab, which is separate from your character inventory, and any storage furniture you have installed. Survival Log splits storage across several containers, and items in a drawer do not show in the carried inventory grid.
If it is genuinely absent from all of them, you have hit the reported Survival Log defect. Verifying game files through Steam is worth doing, though it will not restore a lost quest item on its own.
Frame drops on the ability screen
This one is worth stating plainly, because it gets misread as a spec problem: the reported Survival Log frame-rate drop happens on the ability-learning screen, not in the simulation. If your game runs smoothly through a Day 30 siege and then stutters when you open skills, your hardware is fine and you have hit a UI rendering issue.
Standard Survival Log troubleshooting still applies - update graphics drivers, verify files, and confirm you meet the 16 GB RAM minimum, since being under it produces similar-looking symptoms for entirely different reasons.
Crashes and the game not launching
There is no widespread report of Survival Log crashing or not launching, which is worth saying plainly because it means a launch failure on your machine is almost certainly local rather than a defect in the build. Work through the ordinary causes in order: confirm you meet the 16 GB RAM minimum, update your graphics drivers, verify the game files through Steam, and disable overlays. If the game still is not launching after that, the pinned bug threads are the right place to report it with your specs attached.
Where the Survival Log save file lives
Not a bug, but the question that follows every bug report, so it belongs here.
Survival Log supports Steam Cloud, so in normal use you never need to touch save data. When you do - backing up before a risky run, or moving to a new machine - two locations matter on Windows:
- Your Windows user AppData folder, in a per-game subdirectory. This is where local save state is written.
- The Steam userdata folder, under your Steam install, in a directory named for your account ID and the Survival Log app ID 4164790. This is what Cloud syncs.
Copy both while Survival Log is closed. Editing a save that Cloud later overwrites is the classic way to lose a run twice.
Reporting a bug properly
The Survival Log developers maintain pinned bug-report threads in both English and Chinese on the Steam forum, and they are actively worked. A report that gets fixed usually includes: your loop number and day, the character background you chose, what you expected versus what happened, and a screenshot. Survival Log has enough interacting systems that "it broke" is rarely actionable on its own.
Survival Log FAQ: Bugs & Fixes
Where is the Survival Log save file?
Survival Log uses Steam Cloud, so saves sync automatically. Local copies live under your Windows user AppData folder in a per-game directory, alongside the Steam userdata folder for the app ID. Back up both before editing anything, and never edit a save while the game is running.
Why won't the warehouse clerk unlock?
Players reported a launch-week bug where warehouse clerk progression stalled and follow-on unlocks such as solar panels and mid-size power storage stayed locked. It is a known issue, not a missed requirement. See the warehouse clerk page for the intended unlock path.
My quest blueprint disappeared. Is that a bug?
A missing main-quest rescue blueprint was reported during launch week. If the objective is active but the blueprint is not in your inventory or workbench drawer, you have most likely hit that bug rather than misplaced it.
Does Survival Log crash on launch?
There is no widespread launch-crash report. If it fails to start, the usual causes apply: outdated GPU drivers, a below-minimum 8 GB of RAM, or corrupted files. Verify the game files through Steam first.
